What to Expect at an Achillies Audit

Achilles Audits independently verify that an organisation’s management systems comply with specific standards. They are carried out on supplier organisations and serve to validate capability, competence and compliance. Achilles Audits have several benefits for suppliers and can help improve chances of winning new business, and are a cost-effective way to review management systems.

Achilles Audits offer an end-to-end solution designed to enable businesses worldwide to mitigate potential supplier risks and look at supplier compliance. Developed using a standardised and specialised process, Achilles Audits aim to reduce the effort it takes to prove compliance.

Before An Achilles Audit

Four assessment stages capture information to help qualify suppliers. These stages are supplier registration, industry pre-qualification questionnaires and finally, the audits themselves. An Achilles Audit will take place over one or two days, depending on the assessment.

What the Audit Assesses

During an Achilles Audit, auditors take a close look at a supplier’s organisation management systems which cover key supply chain risk areas. These areas include quality, health and safety, environmental sustainability/CSR and carbon management.

The Audit itself is the physical verification of the information included on a company’s validated supplier questionnaire.

The Achilles Audit involves a full review of all documented policies and processes kept by suppliers. The auditors carry out further checks to ensure that these policies and processes are adhered to, declaring a ‘pass’ or ‘fail’, or items will be reported as scored models, depending upon a buyer’s requirements. If scored as a ‘fail’, the auditor will propose corrective actions to rectify it.

Once the audit reports are approved, they are published online so that buyers and suppliers can view them. Full Achilles Audit reports include an executive summary, scores or status for each section or area, findings (including major and minor non-compliance and non-conformance), observations, positive elements, agreed company actions and detailed scores, response and evidence. As this information is published online, it makes it easy for potential buyers to assess and makes it easier for organisations to build trust and credibility.

Companies that have gone through an Achilles Audit have 25% less lost time than those that haven’t been audited and have 20% fewer fatalities than unaudited companies. In addition to this, in some sectors, 90% of audited companies have specialised training to handle hazards, compared with 60% of non-audited companies.
